Beethoven’s Wigfeaturing Richard Perlmutter

A Masterpiece (Rondeau: from Suite of Symphonies No. 1)

A Masterpiece
By Richard Perlmutter

Everyone says wow now there’s a masterpiece
When this old tune by Mouret begins to play
When the trumpets blow they know
That it’s time to gather ’round the TV today
People upstairs downstairs all around the house
They never miss tuning in it’s de rigueur
’Cause they know they’ll see marquis
Presentations of the world’s most noted literature
Oh there’s Shakespeare and Charles Dickens
Thackeray and Jane Austin, and Emily Bronte and her sister Anne
The Russians Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky
Hardy, Huxley, Maugham, Ibsen even Thomas Mann
So we gather ’round our television sets
Whenever we hear the trumpets start to blow
’Cause this melody means it’s time to see
Another masterpiece so start the show
